Hello people - I just want to talk about something kinda serious
I am assuming you all know about the earthquakes that have happened in New Zealand and Japan?

Well - these events (Japan especially) has caused a whole LOAD of Axis Powers Hetalia fanart.
Fanart that is doing more harm than help.

This is a post by a Japanese fan on Pixiv: www.pixiv.net/member_illust.ph…
Which is basically saying they are finding most of the fanart being posted imprudent

I felt the same way about fanart of New Zealand when the christchurch earthquake happened - there is fanart on Pixiv and DA of New Zealand crying and hurt . . and I wasn't quite sure how to take it . . I felt kind of insulted . . and yet I also felt alone in this belief.

My personal belief is that if you are going to draw a personified country responding to a disaster, if you HAVE to draw it, please think very carefully about who is going to see it.

I didn't really enjoy seeing my country crying and whimpering and helpless.

The day of the earthquake I had to watch strong grown men hold back their tears, not because they were crybabies - but because they had been spending the whole day desperately pulling bodies out of rubble.

I did not appreciate seeing this kind of fanart in my inbox.

The kind of fanart I would have appreciated would have been New Zealand being strong and maybe with messages of support.

but if you are unsure - just avoid drawing fanart altogether

Just please, PLEASE be considerate when drawing something in response to the disasters.

Another thing that has been bothering me is comments on my journals and deviations.
I recently got some comments from people who seemed to think I needed informing about what is happening in my own country - even though it happened weeks ago - even though I have been LIVING IT.
I am sure they had the most decent of intentions - but the bottom line was that it was ignorant and it hurt me a bit.
Just another example of people not thinking before they posted.

Please consider how you react to these disasters
<3 thank you

The fan-art is generally redundant and demeaning, to be quite honest. Honestly, dealing with these things, how many people would care about certain countries compared to another simply because they were fans of Hetalia or Scandinavia and the World and the characters were there (simply saying because Japan got a shit-load of, "LET ME DRAW THIS KAWAII SPARKLE SPARKLE DESU PICTURE TO HELP," and New Zealand mostly got, "oh, that's a country? Oh, well, an earthquake is like a country having a stomach ache, right?" because I remember that picture fully well).

I can say that the only countries who got publicity who WEREN'T in those two comics seemed to be Haiti, Libya, Egypt, and Bahrain. I honestly don't know many other countries with things going on around this time because they didn't get much care or publicity.

Also, slightly-related doodle below is not very relevant but I felt like doodling, and apparently, there are hands. Non-Hetalia related. Just 'I wish it was this easy' -related.

If I were to draw a Hetalia picture about a Natural Disaster. I would draw [insert country here] being strong and helping their people while their friends and allies work in the background. Really, drawing a country as weak and helpless and needing others to help them just rubs me off the wrong way, saying that the country itself is weak and in cases like Australia with the horrible Fires and Floods and New Zealand and Japan with those awful quakes, all of which are 1st world countries than can, will and have supported themselves during said crisis just rubs me off the wrong way.

I also hate how damn selective people are when they come to caring about which country is affected by disaster. When the floods in Pakistan happened, floods which killed more people than the 2004 Tsunami and Haiti Earthquake combined and left over 20 million people without shelter, food and clean water, no one cared. That kind of thing really pisses me off. Yes the quakes in NZ/Japan were awful, but over 1 million lives swept away and 20 million people starving in a third world country that can possibley recover from without a lot of international aid and no-one gives a hoot about it? That's fucked up.

I know - and I feel I can't say anything to the artists because I don't really want to stir up shit . . :I

It's just made me so uncomfortable how blown up the response to the Japan earthquake has been compared to other places . . it just shows how much the world revolves around some places but not others

Agreed. So much.

Honey I appreciate the support and well intentions people have been giving despite all the drama as well.. but I had an exploded inbox too with the same thing.. I though I was the only one thinking that hey... in this time of disaster.. why are they making such depressing and weak pictures? Not only do we see support from our allies but we see a country's own strength shine. Yes, it was terrible what happened in Japan.. I'm truly worried about the world.. but I was also floored by how many journals/deviations/etc popped up for this versus tragedies that happened in NZ, Chile, Brazil, Haiti and many more. That's where some of this drama is coming from aside from trolls being trolls. We can't just say "OMG it's Japan!" but care about everyone in the world.. not favorites.. Actually been pretty depressed over this whole thing so I've been ignoring a lot of forums and journals online honestly..

I was devastated by the Australia floods and fire and then the cyclone on top of all that . .
and then the first earthquake hit and then the second on boxing day and then the THIRD killing so many people
that was enough to make me feel super fragile . .
and now the Japan earthquake . . I have become so paranoid and anxious . . living on a faultline myself . .
I wish I could just distance myself from all of this but at the same time I feel I need to know
all of this has become so much - people trolling and being dicks about it has just made things even worse ;w;
/hugs
